How I work with my clients
My primary work is pencil and painted portraits but I also do custom murals, faux and decorative work. Understanding my process will help us communicate better during the intial stages and will give you some insight to how to help me give you the results you are looking for. I generally work from photographs or inspirational images and then create a final proof before I begin work on the commissioned piece itself.
A typical engagement for a portrait involves these steps:
- For portraits, I ask that we start with a photograph or photographs. We will discuss the type of portrait requested. What is it for? Does it need to work in a particular decor? Will this be single or multiple subjects? How large a piece do you want? Would this be better as a painting or a pencil drawing? Color or black and white? etc.
- Based on our discussion of the style, size, medium, and timeframe, I will digitally manipulate the photograph(s) to produce one or more mockups or proofs, and I will provide a binding quote for the project.
- We will agree on the final proof, size, medium, and timeframe for the project and I will collect half the quoted price as a deposit to begin work.
- I will schedule your portrait based on my available studio time. I may send updates so you can see your piece as it progresses.
- When I am finished, I will send pictures of the final piece for approval, and schedule delivery.
- If you are a local customer, I will meet you to exchange the completed portrait, ready for professional framing, for the second half of the quote. If you are not a local customer, I will deliver (at your expense) the approved portrait, upon receipt of the second half of the quote.
- Payment options: PayPal, Google Checkout, Checks thru the mail, and cold-hard-cash.
I have done commissioned portraits for local clients as well as clients throughout the United States. I hope you're next!
